Match Report
by The Chairman

MW CC vs Salix CC @ Beecham's Powders.

The long awaited fixture against the old enemy , Salix, had finally arrived. The MW pitched up early to watch Salix trickle in. The Beecham's ground looked in fine condition on a sunny afternoon. We were without Secretario who was on a post op. sabbatical in Suffolk. There was a little concern as to the state of The Slippery Swede's arthritic finger - only time would tell whether it was up to the job.

Our new addition to the side Daoud who had wandered up at the Down-Under-Dragon's game wanting a game was on his debut. Salix won the toss and elected to bat. The Salix openers dug in - Fletch was looking solid. The MW needed a break through. In steps the mighty Daoud - ooh the boy can bowl- taking two wickets - giving Salix something to think about. Fletch still looking solid as ever though. Our glorious captain turned the tide taking four wickets including the Fletch scalp. Followed by the Slippery Swede who finished the job with the finger making an improvement. The MW had conceded 40 odd extras giving Salix a total of 231 - giving the MW something to think about. The MW had a hill to climb although the outfield was fast. There was a steely silence over Tea, which was broken by Fletch - announcing 'let's get on with it' [translated - 'let's get the job done and have an early night']

Daoud and Murd opened - ooh the boy can bat as well - producing a useful quick 30. BYU stepped in the breach with a respectable 14 followed by the arthritic Slippery getting off to a slow start to make sure he had all his faculties. Now things were starting to look interesting with Slippery alongside the Charlton. Slippery opened up the throttle. You could tell Salix were rattled when Fletch went into 'slow full toss mode' The Charlton and Slippery were having none of it - each delivery swotted down. Then Andy out LBW making a splendid 50 - Slippery rocketing on to a 115 not out. The MW averaged over 12.5 an over for the last 7 overs. It was a momentous victory with 5 overs to spare.

The most notable points of the match were the breakthroughs made by Daoud and Wuff into the Salix top and middle batting order. Charlton's 50 and of course the injured 115 not out from Slippery. Definitely a day when the Mighty Wanderers were Mighty. A perfect warm up for Sveedenn. I only hope that Slippery can get his arthritis sorted before the off and make that elusive double century!

As ever a joy to play Salix at Beecham's.

(Secretario's note: As The Chairman says, truly a momentous victory, against the odds, one of the finest in the club's history. Congratulations to all who took part - especially to Lars (sensational), Wuff, Daoud and Andy whose contributions were outstanding).
